Freshwater's Housing, and What It Asks of an Electrician
Freshie, as locals call it, is a surf suburb with real history, the beach where Duke Kahanamoku rode a board in 1914 and put the place on the map. Its housing tells a two-era story.
In the 1930s the council ruled that only brick homes could go up here, and plenty of those solid pre-war brick houses still stand today. Later decades layered in apartment blocks, so the suburb now splits fairly evenly between flats and freestanding houses.
Down by the beach and along The Strand, the higher-end homes often come with a pool or spa. Each one needs its own dedicated, RCD-protected circuit, correctly bonded and built to shrug off salt and moisture.
Get that wrong and a pool turns into a genuine hazard, which is why the wet-area rules are so strict. We install and certify pool and spa supplies so they are safe to swim beside.
The brick homes bring a different demand. Solid double-brick walls make cable runs harder, so a rewire or a run of new points takes planning rather than brute force through the plaster.
Apartments add a third layer. Shared boards, metering and common-property wiring all have to be handled with the whole building in mind, not just one unit and its owner.
The heritage brushbox trees along Soldiers Avenue are a reminder of how established this suburb is, and the wiring under a lot of these roofs is just as old.
That mix of old and new is the day-to-day here. One street holds a 1930s brick cottage on original circuits, the next a rebuilt home drawing far more power, and both want a board that can keep up.

Services That Fit Freshwater's Homes
Between brick cottages, beachside pools and apartment blocks, the work here is varied, and every job is priced up front and certified on the way out. These six cover most of what we are asked for:
- Switchboard upgrades trading old fuse panels for modern breakers and full RCD protection.
- Rewiring through brick and double-brick homes, worked carefully so walls and finishes stay intact.
- Lighting for indoors, gardens and outdoor entertaining, from downlights to sensor and feature fittings.
- EV charger installation wired to a dedicated supply and matched to your vehicle and the mains.
- Emergency electrician help for sudden power loss, scorched fittings and anything that sparks or smells.
- Level 2 work for the main supply, meter and the connection point out to the grid.

Common Call-Outs in Freshwater
Across the older brick homes and the newer flats, a handful of jobs come round more than most. Each is common enough that we carry the parts and know the fix before we arrive.
- Rewireable fuse boards. Many of the older brick homes still run ceramic fuses. Upgrading the switchboard brings in breakers and a safer, tidier setup.
- Renovation rewires. Knock-down rebuilds and gut renovations regularly reveal ageing cable that needs a full rewire as part of the works.
- Boards short on capacity. Adding a kitchen, studio or car charger can push an old panel past its limit, so more circuits get built in.
- Salt-eaten outdoor gear. Sockets, garden lighting and pool equipment near the beach corrode quickly in the sea air, and we swap them for sealed, coastal-rated fittings that last.

Emergency
Emergency Help, Minutes from Freshwater
Some electrical faults cannot wait, especially anything hot or arcing. When it is genuinely urgent, we drop what we can and get straight over to you.
Phone (02) 9073 7836 straight away if you spot:
- A socket, switch or plug that is warm, browned or melted.
- A safety switch that simply will not stay on.
- A sharp, hot smell like burning plastic near the wiring.
- Lights that dip or flicker when the pool pump or oven starts.
Constant salt air on this beachfront suburb wears fittings and outdoor gear faster than most, so corrosion sits behind a good share of these faults. Shut it down at the main switch and give us a ring.
Do not keep resetting a switch that keeps letting go. A repeat trip is the system flagging a real problem, and it wants finding, not overriding.

Common questions
Common Freshwater FAQs
The questions we get asked most, answered plainly.
Do you actually service Freshwater?
Yes, regularly. Fairlight is home turf and Freshwater is a normal part of our week, so getting a local sparky out to you is no trouble at all.
What makes older Freshwater homes keep tripping the RCD?
Old wiring, a damp outdoor circuit or a failing appliance sets it off, which is the RCD earning its keep. We hunt down the real fault and fix it properly.
Just how local is your team?
Genuinely local. We are a Northern Beaches crew out this way most weeks, which means you are not stuck waiting days for someone to drive across the city.
Are quotes really free?
They are. There is no call-out fee for a quote, and the price we quote is the price you pay once you decide to go ahead.
Can you handle a full renovation rewire?
Absolutely. We rewire whole homes and apartments in stages, keeping power on where we can, and finish with new points, lighting and a compliant board.
What does the guarantee cover?
Our workmanship is guaranteed for life, backed by a 12-month product warranty. If our work is ever not up to scratch, we come straight back and make it good, no argument.
